Boys 1st grade program

The CBAA Boys 1st grade program is all about development for these young rising stars of the game.  The league emphasizes fun, while also teaching basic principles.  Our 1st grade division utilizes a 3 v 3 format for play.  The 3 v 3 format is recommended by USA Basketball, the Jr. NBA as well as many other basketball experts.

The primary benefits of the 3 v 3 format include:

  • Players get more touches on the ball
  • Game is played at a faster pace
  • Players learn floor spacing
  • Players learn how to move and pass the basketball
  • Players begin to learn the basic movements of the game including V-Cuts, L-Cuts etc
  • Learn man to man defensive principles

Teams are formed with no more than 6 to 7 players and play once a weekend for 1.5 hours.  The teams practice for 45 minutes and then play games for the remaining 45 minutes.  Games are played within the half court.  Each game has a referee who will call fouls and other violations.  With each foul/violation, the referee will explain to the player why a certain call was made.
